Do you feel like you are empowered and can take on anything life throws at you? I didn’t either. This FANTASTIC read really helped me along that journey! Part memoir, part motivational speech, You are a Badass lives up to its tagline: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life.

Sincero starts at the beginning, asking readers to explore “How you got this way”. I love that she isn’t afraid to tackle big topics like money, God, and how we were brought up. And yet she does it in a way that invites us to acknowledge it and make peace. Instead of getting stuck in the quagmire of blame and finger pointing, we move to a place of acceptance.

Later on in the book, in the section titled “How to Get Over Your B.S. Already,” she hit on a topic that really resonated with me: FEAR. Her observation is so true:
“We’ve made being in fear a habit….We’re taught to play it safe and not take risks, and to caution everyone around us to follow suit.”
Jen Sincero
Wow. That is the absolute truth from where I’m sitting. I have even had to fight it off in my parenting, always ready with “be careful!” rather than “you’ve got this!” When we internalize all that paralyzing fear it makes it difficult to kick butt!
Don’t worry though, this isn’t one of those “tough love” books where she just preaches at us all the time. Interwoven into the life advice are her own stories of mishaps, missteps, and triumphs. Jen Sincero is the kind of person you would love to have for a friend because she is wise but also very authentically imperfect.

You definitely have to check out this book because it’s bursting with memorable pointers that will leave you feeling empowered and full of badassery. It does have some adult language, but hey, sometimes life calls for a good f-bomb, am I right? Get your hands on a copy this month and you’ll be ready to own the rest of 2020 – whatever it has in store for us!

This was a good book overall. I haven’t read her book about money yet but it’s on my list. Big Magic is another great read for creative types.
Her money book was pretty good, I needed a good reset around what permission to want money looks like. LOVE Big Magic, definitely going to highlight it soon! 🙂
